Large Beguinage in Leuven is one of the best preserved and fully restored beguinage. Built in the southern part of the Leuven area of about 4,2 hectares has around 300 apartments 100 houses. Beguinage extends on both sides of the river Dijle, which is divided onto two channels, forming inside the Beguinage island. For this part are three bridges. Currently Beguinage is owned by the University of Leuven. It is used as a campus, especially for students and academic visitors.

Beguinage in Leuven creates a small town surrounded by a wall, with houses located along the network of narrow streets and squares. Five of them dating back to the sixteenth century, three houses are still wooden beams. The oldest house in the Beguinage is coming from 1561, the C hièvres, with its characteristic gable roof with dormers. Most of the houses date from the 1630 - 1670. They were built of red brick. In the nineteenth century, some houses were demolished and in their place were built new.
