Modave Castle
Situated on a sixty-meter rock above the Hoyoux River valley, in the center of a 450 hectare nature park. The first mention of a fortress built here comes from the 13th century. The castle owes its contemporary appearance to Count de Marchin, who gave it its present shape in the 17th century.
In twenty-five rooms, open to the public, you can admire beautiful 17th-century stuccos, Brussels tapestries, large paintings, magnificent sculptures, and unique furniture from the 18th-19th centuries.
Over the centuries, the castle changed owners many times. Among the most eminent was Maksymilian Henry of Bavaria, Elector of Cologne and Prince-Bishop of Liege. Modave Castle has been included in the list of the Cultural Heritage of Wallonia. Today it is owned by the Belgian company Vivaqua, which runs a hotel and restaurant here. Visitors can also stroll in the adjoining gardens. There is a large parking next to the castle.
