Transparent church
In the village of Borgloon in the Flemish province of Limburg, a transparent church was built, an unusual structure, whose creators are the duo of architects Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh. This seemingly light building weighs as much as 30 tons. Consisting of 100 stacked layers of steel plate, separated by 2000 steel columns, it reaches a height of 10 meters. The special method of construction makes the church blend in with the surrounding landscape.
When viewed directly from any side of the building, its walls appear transparent. If you look at the walls from a higher or lower angle, the structure suddenly looks solid. The project that the artists called Reading between the lines looks especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset. The architectural attraction is open all year round. To get here, from the nearby parking lot, you have to walk several hundred meters.
