Manhay History Museum 44
In the winter of 1944, decisive battles took place between American and German troops. Bloody battles took place from December 23, 1944, until the liberation of the last villages on January 7, 1945. The military operations in the Manhay, Lierneux and Erezée sectors were part of the Battle of the Bulge. In the town of Manhay, a museum was created telling the story of the fighting that took place in these areas. In particular, it is dedicated to the American units that liberated the surrounding towns.
The Manhay History 44 Museum tells the story of those activities. Thanks to reconstructions, photos and films, it is easier to understand the situation of the fighting soldiers and the tragedy of the inhabitants living there. The museum has a large collection of military artifacts, including complete equipment donated by American veterans who fought in the Battle of Manhay. The most impressive thing is the German Panther tank standing near the museum, belonging to the Second SS Panzer Division. This tank took part in the Battle of the Bulge and was abandoned by the Germans due to lack of fuel on December 26, 1944.
