Manhay History Museum 44
In the winter of 1944 decisive battles took place between American and German troops. Bloody battles took place from 23 December 1944 until the liberation of the last villages on 7 January 1945. Military operations in the Manhay, Lierneux and Erezée sectors were part of the Battle of the Bulge. A museum was created in the town of Manhay to tell the story of the battles in these areas. It is dedicated in particular to the American units that liberated the surrounding towns.
The Manhay History Museum 44 tells the story of those actions. Reconstructions, photos and films make it easier to understand the situation of the fighting soldiers and the tragedy of the people living there. The museum has a large collection of military artifacts, including complete equipment donated by American veterans who fought in the Battle of Manhay. The most impressive thing is the German Panther tank standing near the museum, belonging to the Second SS Panzer Division. This tank took part in the Battle of the Bulge and was abandoned by the Germans due to lack of fuel on 26 December 1944.
