Walzin Castle
The castle is located in an extremely picturesque area in the province of Namur, on the Lesse River. The construction of the fortress began in the 13th century.
In 1554, the castle was burned by French troops. A 15th-century Renaissance horseshoe-shaped tower with four cannon emplacements remains from this period. The stronghold, built on a fifty-meter-high rock, was intended to defend the nearby city of Dinant. In 1850, the ruins were purchased by Baron Alfred Brugmann, who commissioned their restoration in the Spanish-Flemish style. A castle in this style can be seen on postcards from the Belle Époque period.
