The history of Ecaussinnes-Lalaing Castle
The first stronghold in this place was built in 1184 on the initiative of Baldwin V, Count of Hainaut. Over the centuries, the castle was rebuilt many times and changed owners – it belonged to the illustrious Ecaussinnes, de Lalaing, de Croÿ and van der Burch families. Today, it is one of the best-preserved examples of medieval defensive architecture in Belgium.
During your visit you will discover fascinating contrasts.
