Bokrijk open-air museum-Bokrijk openluchtmuseum
Bokrijk is a small town in north-eastern Belgium, located halfway between Hasselt and Genk. The biggest attraction of this place, which has consistently attracted crowds of tourists for many years, is the entertainment center, whose main point is the open-air museum. This is one of the most interesting facilities of this type in Belgium.
In the area of 60 hectares, rural buildings and entire villages from various areas of Flanders were reconstructed here. Its construction began in 1953 a year, and less than five years later it was made available to visitors. This open-air museum located 7 kilometers northeast of Hasselt is surrounded by forests, gardens, farms and ponds, which together occupy 550 hectares.

IN Bokrijk we can admire more than 100 houses, a church, a windmill, which were demolished in different parts of Flanders and reconstructed here. These are buildings from East and West Flanders, the Campine region, Brabant and of course Limburg. In these buildings we will see people dressed in costumes from that era, who perform works characteristic of the village of the nineteenth century, of course, using tools that were available 150 years ago. During the tour we can meet gardeners, women weaving wicker baskets, as well as bakers. In one of the buildings you can buy bread baked in the open-air museum.
A few years ago a new attraction was added. A small, old town from the 1960s was reconstructed.
Within the open-air museum you can also eat in a restaurant located in one of the buildings.
Every year in the summer season in Bokrijk various types of events and demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts are organized, where you can learn about the life and work of old Flemish.
