Attre castle - an 18th-century pearl in the heart of Hainaut
Attre castle is a historic estate where noble simplicity meets exquisite detail, where nature and architecture perfectly complement each other. The expansive lawn stretching out in front of the castle enhances the dignity of the estate, blending seamlessly with the meticulously tended French gardens. Long ago, a medieval castle stood here, inhabited by the Franeau d'Hyon family, Counts of Gomegnies, court chamberlains. Around 1752, the owners, desiring a residence more befitting their status, built the current palace.
W latach 1782-1788 zamek stał się ulubionym miejscem pobytu arcyksiężnej Marii Krystyny Austriackiej i jej męża księcia Alberta, ówczesnych gubernatorów generalnych Niderlandów Południowych. Ich obecność dodała posiadłości prestiżu. Zamek otoczony parkiem o powierzchni 17 hektarów zachwyca elegancją bez przepychu, architektoniczną harmonią i wyjątkowo dobrze zachowanym wnętrzem z epoki. W rezydencji składającej się z budynku głównego i dwóch skrzydeł do zwiedzania przeznaczono tylko parter. Na pozostałych piętrach mieszka rodzina właścicieli. Nie można robić zdjęć zwiedzanych pomieszczeń. Płatność za bilety przyjmowana jest tylko w gotówce.
Park w stylu angielskim - spacer wśród historii i natury
A romantic English-style park lies behind the historic estate. This picturesque area combines the beauty of nature with unique garden architecture. Winding paths and wooded nooks were created for peaceful walks and reflection in a natural setting. The Vignou Tower is an ideal vantage point for admiring the landscape. According to legend, it served as a hideout for the highwayman Vignou. The 18th-century dovecote, in turn, is a testament to the ancient utilitarian architecture. In 1788, an artificial grotto in the form of ruins was built. It symbolized the quintessence of 18th-century romanticism: the connection between man and nature. The pavilion at its summit served as an observation point during rabbit hunts organized in honor of the annual visit of Archduchess Maria Christina of Austria and her husband.
