Beloeil Castle
This vast, stately residence of the Princes de Linge originally served as a medieval fortress. Over the centuries, it was deprived of its defensive values, becoming a country residence. The de Linge family inherited the Beloeil castle from the family Condé April 6, 1396. In the 16th century, Antoine de Linge began work on the gardens surrounding the castle. His descendants introduced many changes. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the residence was given an unusual style, combining the remains of medieval architecture with classical innovations. Unfortunately, due to a major fire that burned down most of the castle in 1900, little remains of the original building. In 1906, after six years, this magnificent residence was rebuilt.
Belgian Versailles
Beloeil Castle is surrounded by a charming area of over one hundred hectares. Inside, the property houses prestigious art collections, furniture made by the best French carpenters of the 16th and 17th centuries, tapestries, and an impressive library with 20,000 books and valuable manuscripts. Around the castle, on 25 hectares, there is a magnificent French-style park, a masterpiece of the 17th century. This one of the most beautiful parks in the country, called the Belgian Versailles thanks to the extraordinary harmony of water bodies and greenery, has remained faithful to the original design from 1664. The entire Beloeil area has been given the status of a major cultural heritage site in Wallonia.
