Castle Véves
This is one of the most interesting examples of 15th-century military architecture, classified as an exceptional Walloon heritage. The building stands on the foundations of a primitive stronghold, built during the times of Pepin of Heristal (650-714). Over the centuries, the castle was destroyed twice: the first time in 1200, then at the end of the 15th century, as a result of a fire. During the Renaissance, the building was completely rebuilt. The next changes, carried out under Louis XV, concerned mainly the interior. Celles Castle, also called a castle Véves was built on the plan of an irregular triangle, flanked by four large towers and two smaller ones.
Located about 8 kilometers from Dinant, near Celles, one of the most beautiful villages of Wallonia, the castle is one of the main attractions of the area. The building has been owned by the Beaufort family for 800 years. The renovation carried out in the years 1969-1979 restored the castle to its former glory. Rooms with 18th-century furniture, terraces and a chapel are available to visitors. During the visit, children can dress up as princesses and knights. Visiting the castle, without a guide, takes about 45 minutes. There are also two interesting castles Walzin and Freÿr in the area.
