Anyone who visits the Center of the Belgian Comic Book will go to the realm of imagination, home of famous cartoon characters, recognized around the world. Who among us does not remember from childhood Smurfs, Lucky Luke, whether Tintin. We will also learn about other comic books here, less popular in the world, but in Belgium bearing the name of the iconic. You can include them Spirou, Bob and Bobette, Blake and Mortimer, Gaston and many others. Wonderfully organized exhibitions will please both children and lovers of comic books.
The museum has original sketches and the first editions of iconic comic books in its collection. It is a tribute to the Belgian love of comic books, i.e. bandes dessinées, and many famous artists from Belgium and abroad. One of the most popular permanent exhibitions is the one dedicated to the great heroes of comic books, from the one created by the excellent cartoonist Hergé Tintin to Smurfs whose creator was equally wonderful Peyo. The collections are presented on three levels in an Art Nouveau building designed by Victor Horta. One of the exhibitions tells about this architect, his life and the era in which he created.
Also interesting is the exhibition presenting, in an attractive form, the history of the comic book, from its invention until the modern era. Cébébédé, because this is the name of the museum, also provides the opportunity to buy various souvenirs related to popular pictorial characters, and above all a whole series of comic books, which sometimes have several dozen parts.
For visitors who want an even larger dose of the comic books world, a tour of stores, antique shops and bookstores dealing exclusively with the sale of comic books has been organized. You can also follow the trail of comic books murals, which are several dozen in Brussels. Leaving the museum, it is worth to turn to the left. After a few hundred meters we will find ourselves next to the charming monument of the comic book hero Gaston.
