Main Square - the heart of Brussels
La Grand Place is an outstanding example of the eclectic combination of architectural and artistic styles that characterize the culture of this region. Over the centuries, the market square has retained its shape and characteristic Gothic and Baroque features. All conservation work, since the 19th century, has been carried out with great care to preserve the original appearance of the renovated buildings. The exceptional charm of La Grand Place and the care taken to preserve its historical appearance resulted in it being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 1998.
